Greetings From Dogpatch 11: The Legend of Boggy Creek

Sorry this page is late! I was super sick Saturday/Sunday/Monday/most of Tuesday/Still not completely well today, but I got the comic done and HERE IT IS.

That middle panel might be familiar to some readers. Specifically those readers familiar with terrible documentary-style horror movies from the 1970s.

And look! They’re finally getting into Dogpatch proper!

Having lived in Arkansas, on the southern tip of the Ozarks,…I must now go look up the Ozark Howler…

The creature of Boggy Creek I’m VERY familiar with…

“Yes, miss!”

He looks so gosh-darned happy about his monster sentries!

Also, is Boggy Creek a real thing, or just a reference to MST3K? Because that’s where my mind went.

I love your dialogue. It’s always amazing.

Oh sorry to hear you’ve been sick! Hope you’re all back up to snuff and tormenting your cast properly shortly!

The Legend of Boggy Creek nearly scared me to death when I was a tot. I haven’t thought of it in years! Great comic!

I hadn’t heard of The Legend of Boggy Creek before. The middle panel made me think of the Honey Island Swamp monster. I’m sure that’s much further south than the residents of Dogpatch would ever be comfortable going. Maybe they’re related.

HOLY CRAP, the Fouke Monster! Kory, your awesome rating just went off the charts… even more so than it was. Now, I need to go look up this Ozark Howler. Seriously, it is so cool to see this stuff happening so close to where I live! :D

Eee, the Howler. I loved all those stories as a kid. But then again I lived next to a graveyard as a kid, I loved all spooky things. ^_ ^

I bet these guys had all kinds of fun screwing with Charles B. Pierce!

How does Fouke feel about being on Mystery Science Theater 3000?

XD

Ahhh, Boggy Creek, Fouke, Ozark Howler?? I love your knowledge of cryptozoology! Great little throwbacks to some common myths of the Americas.

Third panel is GORGEOUS, btw. I agree with the person above, it would be a gorgeous desktop.

Yes, I actually saw “The Legend of Boggy Creek,” with my brother, IN THE THEATER. I hardly remember anything about it, except that it was not an Oscar contender.

I love it when you use American folklore in the comic.

…also, is it just me, or is Dogpatch a little bit like if Deliverance was populated by mythological creatures? Or, at the very least, that town Spectre from Big Fish.

…Two sets of wings?

Technically, if I remember my angel-ology, that would make Gabe a Cherub, not strictly an Angel, and definitely not a Seraph (who have three).

On the other hand, I love the touches of red and brown, making one pair more ‘earthly’, while the other pair is less-detailed and pure-white, making them appear almost like a different creature altogether.

Gabe’s bio says that s/he is a Power. A quick web search doesn’t turn up much about them aside from their placement in the hierarchy (mid-level, exact placement varies by theologian) and their role as warriors. I did turn up one description involving red wings though.

I don’t know anything about Fouke, or Boggy Creek, or Ozark Howlers, but that middle panel is awesome. I agree with the wallpaper comment!

Oh, and there’s a typo – it says “moutains” in panel three.

Hope you’re feeling better!
