Greetings From Dogpatch 5: Consensus

Greetings From Dogpatch 5: Consensus published on 35 Comments on Greetings From Dogpatch 5: Consensus

Remember, the 4th is the LAST DAY to order from the store if you want to get your stuff by Christmas! I am leaving early on Wednesday to go visit my parents for about two weeks, and by the time I get back it will be too late to mail out stuff and guarantee it to arrive by the Holidays!

Because I will be in Missouri until the 17th, I won’t have access to my usual workspace! I’ll have my laptop and my tablet, so I’ll still be able to work, and I am not planning for any sort of interruption in the comic, but I can’t guarantee that there won’t be a hiccup! I’ll make sure to let everyone know beforehand, though.

Gabe most hear this a lot when s/he interacts with people. Shame our language doesn’t really have agreed upon ways to address and refer to people that doesn’t rely on the gender binary.

Yeah, what has been offered so far (‘zie’ and the like) is terribly awkward.

I honestly don’t understand why so many people think that. It’s just another monosyllabic pronoun, similar in sound and declension to pre-existing ones.

“They” or “you” seems to work.

Singular ‘they’ works pretty well for third person most of the time, yeah. But ‘you’ doesn’t do anything to replace more formal forms of address like ‘mister,’ ‘sir,’ or ‘ma’am.’

I think ‘they’ is technically grammatically correct even when used in singular form instead of plural. As in “Gabe must hear this a lot when they interact with people.” The problem is that people are so used to hearing it used in plural form that it *sounds* wrong when used in singular form.

“It” should be fine, but people get their panties in a twist over it for some reason.
It’s a pronoun like any other, and it serves exactly that purpose.

Love Myra’s eyeroll! Also, at first I was concerned about the driving w/ an eypatch thing, but Bugbear! So that’s OK …

Hahaha I love Eustace’s faces there, in the middle panels. He’s all “Oh God she’s leaning on my shoulder” then “OH damn I can smell her hair!” and finally, “MLAAHAHHH SHE’S LOOKING AT ME!”

I use she ’cause that how Eustace sees Gabe.

“I’m an Angel. I kill firstborn children while their mothers watch. I turn cities into salt, and when I feel like it.. I rip the souls from little girls.. and from now until kingdom come, the only thing you can count on in your existence..is never understanding why.”
Gabriel [Character] -The Prophecy

Angels are scary….

That’s one of the big problems Humans have: a desperate, niggling desire to Know Why… I find it much more relaxing ever since I stopped caring and just find out as it (whatever “it” happens to be) unfolds. Far less stressful. Just sitting back and paying attention has gotten me more information than asking questions EVER DID.

If you sit silently staring at a person, most will start babbling to fill (what they perceive to be) the uncomfortable silence…SO entertaining! :D
