Well, one side effect is that compared to Vera, Ol’ B.C. seems to be a comparatively trustworthy companion… and yes Michelle, this is going to come back to get you sooner or later and is more likely to bite you than buoy you.

Wasn’t this island in the middle of the Irish Sea? Demon lady’s gonna be swimming for, like, two full days at least.

So what’s Blood going to do now? He can’t go back, he has no medallion and he can’t reveal himself to the world… where’s he going to go? Ten seconds of Wonderland’s whimsy would drive him round the bend.

But that can wait. Like Vera, he’s just relieved to see the open sky and feel fresh air right now.

Bloodcarver still has a couple wounds to heal, including some recent ones, which he supposedly cannot do in Dis. Hence, him staying on Staffa for a bit (hoping that Michelle will plead his case in the LA in the meantime) sounds rather reasonable.

Otherwise … well, he did sneak near the LA by essentially going under water the last time. That makes a lot of places on this blue planet at least accessible for a quick check whether they’re suited for a long-term stay …

… and then there’s still the loose end of “can Michelle resurrect medallion production, and if so, for whom” …

Is Vera swimming in the right direction? Ireland is the other way and they are much more fun to be around.

If I reckon her direction properly (and assuming that she’s able to keep it stable, of course), she would be headed to (North) Ireland – if Fionnphort and its surroundings weren’t sorta in the way …

Since Kory has declared that this is not Fingal’s Cave on Staffa (which is in the Inner Hebrides), but has located the tiny stone-muffin island “somewhere in the Irish Sea”, the starting point is different. Vera started swimming with the setting sun to her left, so she’s heading generally north. If she keeps that direction and bypasses various hazards, she could make landfall on Northern Ireland, or Scotland, or the Isle of Man, or some other tiny island. She’s not going to reach Liverpool unless she changes direction.

Gabriel is going to have some *fun* when they find about this….

For someone who is supposedly against the status quo, Bloodcarver really seems to think in terms of “people who matter” as opposed to “those that don’t.” A side effect of being the privileged favorite for so long, perhaps. It seems that Vera isnt the only one who is going to have a wake up call, soon.

He can be opposed to the specific status quo he was experiencing without automatically opposing any other status quo that he might encounter.

Give him time, guys. The Father had it hammered into all the dragons that there are dragons and “the others” and only the dragons count. Bloodcarver has been to Earth only a few times and only to spy and kidnap as far as we know. So it is logical for him to think that Michele would only consider the Avalon when thinking of her people.

I think you’re all being too harsh on BC. He’s telling Michele he thinks the people she cares about will be safe and you’re all assuming that means he doesn’t care about anyone else. If I told you to have a nice day would you assume I didn’t care what sort of day everyone else was having?

I’m picturing human-form ‘Carver as a big, muscular, mustachioed warrior, /roughly/ along the lines of Armstrong from FMA. (Probably redhead / ginger instead of blond.) Analogs of his scars would be visible, making him look like he’s “been through the wars”.

Ah, such splendor, paddling off into the sunset.

She’s gonna get eaten by a shark.

More likely she’d eat the shark. She’s a weak demon, is our Vera, but she’s still a demon.

Since she’s a demon, why not possess the shark. That would make traversing the ocean much easier, and quicker, too. Plus, once she reaches a beach/shoreline, she can cause a little ruckus by jumpscaring any people in the water.

*Imagines a Vera shark humming ‘Just Keep Swimming’ while out in open water before going into the Jaws Theme when she reaches a populated area.*

I mean doin’ the doggy paddle in that direction… she might hit the mainland in a week or two. If a shark or something else doesn’t get her first.

The Irish Sea isn’t particularly infested with people-eating sharks as far as I’m aware and Vera is far too skinny to get orcas interested, I would think.

Ugly weather and exhaustion would probably be greater dangers – at least until she runs into humans!

Just thinking of something … Does the protection of the LA’s wards not reach beyond its walls and onto the pier(?) right next to them, where Bloodcarver popped up and grabbed Michelle early in chapter one? (If so, Greg was a bit careless to sit around there with his ears out, wasn’t he?) Or is BC implying that, while “the wards to the LA are much too strong for a demon”, a dragon not impeded by Dis’ dragon-drainerino can make short work of them?
