Look at all this information and near nudity you are getting today! But seriously stop asking why Michelle’s dad doesn’t have wings. He’s not supposed to!

So, essentially, the Grecian and Egyptian sphinxes are just close enough for, say, an Egyptian sphinx to be able to father a Grecian sphinx daughter with a human (or vice versa)?
Perhaps Mr. Jocasta had Grecian ancestors and it is a recessive trait that appeared in Michelle.
I’d definitely agree with this. Its already been stated that monsteriness persists for generations. There is bound to be a Grecian Sphinx somewhere in their lineage.
Don’t worry Kory I understood the differences between Michelle and her father and why they are not relevant. Readers should think of the “titles” Grecian and Egyptian as place of residence rather than race. It could be argued that they are just the gender versions of the Sphinx race. Except that would be proven wrong by the fact that the statues of the Egyptian Sphinx were originally modeled by a female ruler. So instead it is best to think of it as a race that has migrated (possibly during an empire reign) and have developed certain characteristics of the region. Anyways that’s just my two cents for whoever cares but it’s been fun to talk about.
Hmmm so I’m guessing that there could be male Grecian, and female Egyptian sphinxes. Depending on the parents genetics either could be born. Perhaps it’s more likely for a Grecian to be female, and a Egyptian to be male, but not impossible for the other way around if the genetics line up right.
I love how the Nokk is obviously checking out the Nixie, who looks like she’s Merial. Any chance of him or the Faun showing up in the stories?
Oh, and what is the difference between a Faun and a Satyr? Only difference I know of is that Satyrs tend to be more aggressive then Fauns, in things that have both of them.
I think satyrs are goaty, while fauns are deery.
That’s all well and good, but why doesn’t Michelle’s dad have wings?
Because he is not supposed to! Did you not read this?:
“Look at all this information and near nudity you are getting today! But seriously stop asking why Michelle’s dad doesn’t have wings. He’s not supposed to!”
Egyptian Sphinxes, or the male Sphinxes dont have wings!
If anyone has seen the Dark Crystal by Jim Hanson, the male Gelflings dont have wings, but the females do. Its the same thing in a way.
I know, it was a joke. :P
Hanson? Or Henson?
Exactly what I was thinking!
“You’ve got wings! I don’t have wings!”
“Of course not. You’re a boy.”
(From memory. Old, old memory. >_> )
I think it’s easier to think of it in terms of birds. The male birds usually have the bright, colorful plumage, while the females are more subdued in color. When they have babies, the females inevitably grow up to look drab, and the males get their pretty, bright wings.
In the same way, male sphinxes have no wings, and the females do…no matter what you call them (i.e., Egyptian or Greek).
I have a question! Or possibly two related questions.
Obviously since the story is mostly happening in the UK/US we don’t see a lot of Asian monsters, but I love that mythology so I want to know: how would it work for creatures like tanuki/kitsune in this world? Myth-wise they’re mostly normal animals plus magic/shapeshifting abilities. Do they count as monsters or do they sometimes use medallions as well? Or are they outside the whole community altogether?
Since they are, like you mentioned, in many ways ‘skinwalkers,’ maybe they’d be ‘totem spirits’ like Maurice and Wossisname? Both of them (kitsune/tanuki) figure in a lot of iconography and worship as well (I’m thinking about Inari and the ‘lucky’ tanuki statues.) /shrug
There is a character in the Liverpool Avalon that is a Fu Dog, otherwise known as an Asian guardian lion, though I forget his name. Kory answered a question about him a while back.
Well that’s settled now.
so if werewolves were make up be bugbears than who or whats the beast of bray road…. and what eating my shoes?
“-…and what eating my shoes?”
*sheepishly raises an appendage*
Maybe Egyptians sphinxes don’t have wings because they were too hard to carve in giant statues?
Here’s a question or two: do centaurs also get those medallions and transform into humans? Also will we see more of them?
Heyo! Lets have some fun and swap some character’s species around and draw their reactions!
I think that would be fun! I may just have to do some fan art now…
Yet another reader question to the whole cast:
Have y’all ever considered making your own monster movie? All you need is a 16mm camera. You can all provide the creature effects!
I have a question. What do they do if humans see them? Do they ‘let them in on the secret’ or is there a way to wipe their minds? Say someone got picked up by the cops and accidentally shifted in front of one of them, what then?
Might the jersey devil ever show up in the comic? If not can we just see what it would look like in the Skim Deep universe?
How did Jim’s family get the curse of the green mane, and who gave it to them?
Also, I suppose the most interesting question about the curse is, why were they cursed in the first place?
I hope it has something to do with haunted hair care products…
Here a couple questions for you: Do centaurs get to use coins to change into human forms to? Will we see more centaurs?
Reader question: What with Jim’s hair being cursed so that whenever he cuts it it grows back really long, how does he shave? Did the curse not affect the hair on his face? Does that mean if he grew a beard, it wouldn’t be green? I need to see Jim with a bead HOLYCRAP that would be awesome.
On the topic of shaving, how does Ike shave his facial hair? (I can’t remember if he can get into human form or not, since he can physically shapeshift but has no medallion. I also can’t remember to what extent he can shapeshift.)
BEARD. Jim with a BEARD. Yay for seeing typos after I hit ‘post’.
