Goodness that looks ominous.

A reminder that the new Weird Pets comic, What Do You Do With a Baby Seal is still up for ransom! We’re posting a new comic page for every $20 that gets donated, and the next page goes up in only $5! And gosh, $5 gets you a PDF of the entire comic! Golly!!

“some” of the readings? Suddenly I don’t think I want to know what’s in the rest of that cave. XD

Yeah, that’s a good point. So, about your question… It’s a deep cavern deemed too dangerous for tourists in an “abandoned” amusement park in one of the woodsy bits of the Ozarks. Just about ANYTHING could be down there.

Despite having been deemed “too dangerous” in 1938, locals continued to visit, and “Not Much Sink” was badly damaged by vandals who carried away pieces of the formations to sell to local rock collectors.

The Mystic Caverns and Crystal Dome (which was discovered while building a parking lot) were re-opened for tourism in 1950, then purchased by the developers of Dogpatch in 1966, then sold in 1981, sold again in 1984, sold again in 1988, put up for auction in 2008… It’s possible that Bud Pelsor, who plans to renovate and re-open the park, has purchased the caves as part of his plans for “The Village at Dogpatch”.

I could be wrong about some of these details. Despite having been an attraction of an amusement park for 25 years (1968-1993), and having been a tourist attraction both before and after that, there is surprisingly little information available.

Gonna a take a wild guess, but is that a literal portal to hell? Or is it just a realistic nether portal?

Can you imagine if he said no?

“Nope. See the little dark portal in the cave wall beyond it? Sort of oval-shaped? Yes, the ‘big glowy showy infernal hellmouth decoy’ is an old trick. They seriously need to come up with a new one.” >:=)>
