Happy July! I don’t have anything particularly interesting to say about the comic at the moment, but I hope you’re enjoying it! Look at little Rupert, standing up for himself. Awww.

“my brother is scarier than she is”
very true, and very good point.

reinforced by the previous chapter told us nemean were very close to the line of not getting medallions

i appreciate how Jim can’t come up with a good explanation for Lorne about why Eleanor is dangerous, it shows how this is just…well I was going to say garden variety racism, but I don’t think that’s quite right considering the critters involved. In any case, it shows that the racism towards ‘monsters’ is *taught* in their society and Lorne, who’s hasn’t ‘learned’ it yet, doesn’t see why Eleanor is any more dangerous than someone like John- a foul tempered Neaman Lion. I appreciate this take Kory!

There’s so much pain and despair in that phrase.

“I’m used to it.”

You don’t ever want to hear that from someone who’s genuinely hurting. It’s hard to put into words just how deep those wounds go to get to the point where the depth of despair, pain and loneliness is just your new ‘baseline’ your new normal. That’s someone sitting on the precipice of the black spiral.

Gotta say, this is a really well done allegory for racism in the real world because the dividing line is ultimately arbitrary and self-contradictory. Many similar things fall into the trap of having the two groups be clearly distinct and giving a reason for the divide that ends up undermining their point.
