Oh yeah those two are a couple ~ And even if not, they’re very cute together.

The ‘had’ leaves me feeling like the way they’d write used their tails, but with their tails docked it’s pretty hard to write now

Those two are slowly finding their way into my heart. I imagine they’re so abrasive just due to being jaded about the avalon and it’s society.

and OH NO, “had” good penmanship. I can only guess that means they write with their tails/quills.

Looking at an old ref on the wiki for the skin deep Manticores their written language uses their teeth, claws, and tail spines-so it’s not limited to their tails, but not having them would be like a least a third of your keyboard being broken at all times. This could have changed since of course, we don’t know when this reference was from ourselves.

If they wrote w their tails, having them amputated is the loss of a language. Damn.

Hopefully they scratch with their claws. I assume they are very strong and versatile. I mean, their teeth can eat through anything.

I love the idea of these two basically adopting Ike as new family. Ike gets them snacks, they teach Ike fascinating new things, Ike’s mom gets all pissy.

Apart from the question if Ike has all the right body parts to speak Manticoran, especially in half-form, it would be really hard for him to learn to speak it without a terrible accent. Humans get the same thing when trying to learn a second language with vowels/consonants not used in their native language. You simply don’t know how to form the right sounds.

This right here is why I love collecting constructed languages. I can’t speak real languages other than English for crap, but I can figure out symbols pretty well. Every week I work on writing a version of the book of Psalms using Wakandan glyphs to de-stress. This speaks to me…

I’m the same way about codes; I’ve been playing with Common Tap Code (seriously, you don’t get more basic than *that*) and figuring out variations beyond the usuals (flip, vowels first, column first, etc.) and then thinking about how you could use it in passwords… I’m not great with spoken languages either but codes are a blast.

I love these ideas! I’ve played games that involve reconstructing more glyph-based languages like Heaven’s Vault, or Chants of Sennar (which has five!) and it’s got me wanting to make one of my own. I’m not a linguist, but I am an amateur symbol-designer.
