There’s a reason why Michelle is having a very frustrating time trying to get any concrete information. It’s risky to write down information and do any sort of scientific research when your whole society isn’t supposed to exist.
I’ll be at BwPCon this Saturday! If you’re in Portland, stop down at Ladd’s Addition for a fun outdoor comic treat!!

Just use a language and a script that nobody outside knows about! Like Manticorsh, or the Voynich Manuscript.
She could just pass it off as a worldbuilding project. “I was trying to write a book/ttrpg setting, but I got really into the worldbuilding aspect, so now I’m just doing it for fun.”
You mean, writing a comic? Just doing it for world building for that comic. It is called Skin Deep. Just a very compelling and interesting story.
maybe throw in some delusions of grandeur, “I’m going to be the next Tolkien/Sanderson!”
“The magic system I’ve created is very silly and very hard to explain, and in fact is so obtuse even I don’t fully understand it. That’s how you know I’m a good author of TTRPGs! Gary Gygax, move over!”
Hope these 3 get to do a research project together
I think it’s something pretty compelling when some specific details are a total mystery in-universe and characters themselves are still trying to figure it out. In a way, it’s closer to our own experience of the world, right?
I like the idea that the mythical creatures exist because enough humans at a given time believed they existed. The souls of humanity shine brightly in The Warp, lol!
I mean, that’s sort-of how the totem animals *continue* to exist in universe, as I recall, so “people imagined this hard enough to manifest them” works for me, XD
Oh man. The ‘best’ way to stifle information- keep populations isolated without any set, consistant way to communicate with each other.
The internet may be the best thing for them, when it gets big enough.
Are there Bonnacons in skin deep? I know they are kind of the laughing stock of medieval animals but I think that they’re interesting as a concept.
Would be interesting too see some more bugganes really love your design of them.
Michelle becoming the first Magical scientist. Much to her annoyance.
