I b’lieve it has to do with his family’s rather strict Christian up-bringing. You know, “Separating the sheep from the goats,” where Good Christians follow their Shepherd, but goats are more independent, and when panicked run every which-way instead of following the Leader.
I’ve lived in Springfield my whole life and just found this comic. Holy cow, how have I not known about this before?! This is gonna be a long night. lol.
