There are quite a group of people born around the 60’s/70’s with the name Merry and Pippin. Very popular among hippies. In 10 years time we’ll probably have a bunch of “Arthas”‘s and “Kane”‘s.
Now there’s a frightening thought! Then again, if I ever have kids I’m planning on mining Arthurian legend and other mythological sources for names, so I guess I can’t point too many fingers.
There’s a bunch of “Bellas” and “Edwards” being born. Not Isabella but Bella. Terrifying that they’re breeding, but at least the kids have somewhat normal names so they won’t be mocked in school as much.
A word of advice; never underestimate the versatility of schoolyard mockery.
Lord of the Rings reference…?
Highly and hilariously likely…then again, I’d imagine those nicknames saw at least SOME use before Tolkien’s books were published.
Well, the whole thing is, for Jon’s middle name to be from LOTR, ‘Merry’ is just the shortened version from Meriadoc. I actually kinda like that name…
I’ve wondered for nearly 23 years why anybody would want to be NORMAL.
Silly humans half-humans and thing-creatures.
I love the way Jim’s ear pricks up backwards like that.
The mention of throttling makes me wonder again if that would actually hurt a Nemean (coming from a non-Nemean) like it did in the Hercules myth. That was asked in the Reader Questions and the only response was an adorably distressed Lorne.
Actually, wait, I think that was a question about whether a Nemean’s pelt would stay indestructible if you skinned them.

Merry and Pippin! I nearly squealed in delight!

Nah, that’s the Finn side showing through.
