You still have to keep out of their vision, but I guess bugbears tend to rely on their radar a lot.
It’s canon that bugbears can’t track other bugbears.
All the curiouser that Alec didn’t notice when The Radar Void™ openly slipped onto the bench right behind his back on page 34 …
I’d assume Alec isn’t actively paying attention to the radar mid poking Ike (the point on page 34 where Kevin’s slipping in to the booth behind Alec is the “They are literally monsters, by definition” exchange bit, after all), or he didn’t think it mattered enough to stop bugging Ike.
And from a quick review of the last time someone wasn’t on Alec’s radar that I know of (The Bugbear Talisman mini-comic), it could well be that he might *have* to be actively paying attention to it to notice something off — he didn’t know Lily had set the honey bucket trap (or presumably the poster defacing) in that set, after all, until after it happened.
Plus if you look at Exchanges his radar isn’t constantly on. He had to be asked to find Tim before he tapped into it. It’s a magical ability, like Eleanor’s fire breath or Merial’s water bending.
I think he was too preoccupied with getting on Ike’s nerves. That’s also probably not his first pint
I reckon it’s his older brother, and he is (hopefully) going to tell Alec to stop being such a twat.
Kevin calls him cousin. That will be even funnier.
As I recall the way bugbear society was explained a while back, the vast majority of bugbear siblings would be considered half-siblings by most other people. So, if 1st cousins are defined as “one of my parents is a sibling to one of your parents,” the potential number of cousins is noticeably expanded.
I had noticed the new arrivals behind Alec in the previous panel. I had to flip back a few pages to see them slide in. Introduce us to your green haired friend, Kevin!
There are supposed to be reasons why you don’t get more than one bugbear at a given location (or more than one family unit, at least), and we might be about to get a demonstration!
Define “family unit”. Granted, Orville (Alecs dad, Council member) is a closer relative than a cousin (if we can take that term at face value), but Alec certainly isn’t a minor anymore …
Definition in this case: whatever the bugbears in said unit can stand.

I looked up the archives and just realized only Alec and Orville normally speak in drippy-speech, not Myra… Interesting. Characterization or just cultural differences, I wonder?

I really love the subtle joke with the speech bubbles: Alec has the dripping ‘voice of the grave’ effect, Kevin breaks his cool, Alex IMMEDIATELY drops the affectation in shock.
