Orville probably thought it’d be hilarious to not tell him that Kevin was visiting. Orville most definitely thought it’d be hilarious, actually.
I’ll be at SDCC this week! Come see me at booth 1229! Come say hello! I will probably be very tired!

Ike is getting the sweet, sweet siiipy of karma.
He needs it. Judging by how he just dug his claws into that table, putting up with two bugbears might be too much for him to handle sober.
So *very* sippy. That is the best “Ooooh Drama!” face.
Oh there is HISTORY here! -Gets popcorn-
The best kind: family history xD
I agree, Elder Hyde: it’s hilarious.
Guessing he might be American from.the ‘howdy’ which suggests cousin?
So Im gussing this guy is his brother?
He called him cousin (cuz) in the previous comic.
His dad is the brother of Alec’s dad.
1. Called Alec “cuz” on the previous page
2. Called Orville (Alec’s dad) “uncle Orv” right here
Someone’s a lil salty
How much do you think this pub spends on furniture repairs?
Well, they allow bugbears in, so…quite a bit, I’m guessing. Or maybe they don’t allow them in and the bugbears sneak in anyway (as bugbears do). Although the damage would end up being the same no matter what.
I’m more curious now as to who insured the place.
No insurance would touch them in the first place, so they just have to save up instead of paying premiums!
They probably just fill the scratches with paste, paint over it, and call it a day.
Bugbears: [bring blood-red nail polish the next eve to re-paint the unevenly filled “scarred over” gouges]
Alec is well and truly bugged! 8-D
ZOMG. I’m the dumbest person alive. The defining characteristic of the Bugbears is that they *bug* people. How did I miss this for so long?
Ike needs popcorn!
Orville was right! XD
Should I feel bad for Alec? …Survey says no.
…You know, I started off on the assumption that Alec was somehow kind of intimidated by this guy, but now I’m wondering if it’s sorta like… Alec is always able to spin him being Like That as a bugbear thing, but with someone else like him not being Like That, he just looks like he’s trying to keep up an image by comparison? Like he’s leaning into the archetype. If he’s the only bugbear, he’s a thing that bumps in the night. If he’s not, he’s just…a goth who keeps pestering people for funsies.
In all honestly, I’m less interested in Alec geting his just deserts than in exploring another facet of him as a character and seeing *that* bounce off others around him. It’s fun! And he probably hates that, so we all win in the end.
You make a convincing case, but I’m still more interested in seeing Alec get his just deserts. It’s not really been focused on, but he’s pretty clearly a bully in a way I find viscerally repellent. I’m not even thinking of the recent interaction with Ike as much as remembering, for example, how he treated Anthony both before and after harpy transformation, taking advantage of his vulnerability in being exposed to a new world and not really relenting after Anthony is mildly traumatized by an irreversible and unexpected transformation.
I’m not going to go on and on (I remember Lynn and Ravi’s respective introductions and don’t want to be a part of that problem thank-you-very-much), but I could watch Alec squirm for another couple pages at least before the plot moves on.
Big sippy :D
siiiiiiiiiiiiiippy
Off to one side: mmmyep, just gonna drink this one riiiight on down
Oooh what kind of accent does Kevin have?
Given Kevin’s “Howdy” from the previous page, I’d guess American Midwestern or Great Plains.
You would be correct! Kevin is american
I have to ask, it’s been bothering me, and I hope someone can explain it. Why is his text bubble all drippy? I can’t form an idea in my mind of the type of sound that’s supposed to represent.
I don’t think that it ever has been stated outright, but it’s commonly taken as indicating how scary, ominous, creepy, threatening, …, you-get-it the voice of the LA’s official scarecrow sounds.
(Though in this page’s last panel, it might well be meant in the common comic-style sense, where it stands for icy / angry / seriously PO’d.)
