huh. I wonder why they’re so worried about someone seeing *Michelle* in particular. It’s not like she looks much different than the rest of the non-humans in her mid- or full human form, right?

Unlikely. Abby says the humans would ‘see a girl’ having a fun time. Obviously not concerned about them seeing a sphinx specifically.
My take on the [cliffhanger?] ending of the Hell Tour was that Michelle had figured out how to extend her medallion’s human disguise to cover ‘Carver /in addition to herself/. That would make him appear to vanish, allowing her to smuggle him into a refuge such as Wonderland. (Can you say, Jabberwocky?) When she dropped the disguise, she could walk away from him with her medallion still functioning normally.
Why use her medallion and possibly damage it? She knows from her boyfriend that medallions can be damaged. There’s no need to use her one, and they would have to be together the whole time for that to happen. It’s definitely a seperate magical object.

Wait, what’s this about humans seeing Michelle? Why would there be a concern about them seeing her, as opposed to literally any other mythical?? It’s not like humans know sphinxes are special???

This feels really icky, if I’m being honest, them going behind Michelle’s back to “keep her safe” by keeping her sequestered. The Elders are not Michelle’s parents nor guardians. She’s an adult (at least 20 years old now, iirc) and she can make her own decisions.

Yeah that was my thought too. Why would the humans care that sphinxes are real any more than they’d care that satyrs or harpies are real? If anything they should be more freaked out that Wonderlanders are real, sense that’s not something from ancient legends, that’s just a relatively recent story (as far as they knew).
Or maybe bugbears, sense they’re kinda like a boogeyman. Probably should be more concerned about bugbears then sphinxes. Oh and look! The head monsters put one of them in charge of keeping them in line! I guess that shouldn’t be as concerning
Perhaps they think that things that aren’t human, but look human, might also be attending the nights festivities under the guise of being a random human observer?
