A new scene! A new location! Some old familiar faces???

Now everybody who’s been wondering where Michelle is during all this knows! She’s complaining at the library.

In order to get this page and the next page done before I leave for ECCC tomorrow, the wonderful Sfé Monster jumped in to flat this page for me! Their help is the reason why this comic isn’t skipping any updates this or next week, so maybe head over to their Patreon and give their work a look? You won’t be disappointed.

I’ll be at ECCC this week! Please come see me at booth 11120 in the Summit building! We’re in a new spot this year, in the basement! Look for my booth under the Cautionary Fables and Fairy Tale branding, as I’ll be tabling with Kel McDonald, Meredith McClaren, and MK Reed!

Old bestiaries, those are fun.

You can find some of them on the Internet, as they’re all long in the public domain.

I recommend “The Historie of Foure Footed Beasts”, by Edward Topsell. Yes, it’s actually spelled like this, it’s from 1607.

A frogge biþ a smol beaste wiþ foure leggys, whyche liueþ booþ in watyre and on londe. It cuoþ bee broune or grene or yelowe, or be it tropyckal, he may haue dyuers coloures. It haþ longys and guilles booþe. Eet haccheþ from an ey and it þan ys a tadpolle. It groweþ to ben a frogge, if it þan ne be noght aetoen.

It helps to know that the funny-looking letter that resembles a b with the stem of a p, or vice versa, is called a “thorn”and pronounced as “th”. Also, the letter u sometimes functioned as a v, giving such words as liveth and have diverse (colors).
The last sentence seems to say the tadpole will grow to be a frog if it nothing eats it.

Also! Theroif of the Avalon.. o.o Yer boxed in ther, aintcha?

Boxed in virtually rather than physically, since the roof is a magical illusion. It looks like a solid roof from the outside, but it’s visible as open sky from the inside.
Tobias, or whoever that griffin is, can fly straight up through it, but that would be a bad idea in broad daylight. Even a nighttime urban excursion would be chancy for a white-winged flyer.

Exactly how much time has passed since Michelle and Blood Carver came back from Dis?

13 months. Time card at the start of Obverse and Reverse said it was September 2005, the one at the start of this arc said October 2006

It’s been about 13 months since she and ‘Çarver went to Limbo, but we don’t yet know when they got back. The weather was summerish when they and Vera emerged on the island, so they either got back before fall ’05 turned cold or stormy, or they didn’t get back until ’06 turned warm again.
So, she’s been back either for about a year, or for a few months.

I think it was most likely a day or so at most, assuming hell time is the same as Earth time. Hopefully it was not for a long amount of time due to time dilation or something crazy like that, because then Greg and the rest of the gang would be freaking the hell out, thinking Michelle was just tricked by the Bloodcarver just like that and died or who knows what.

Besides if that were indeed a plot twist, it would have been mentioned at the end of Obverse and Reverse, or here in The Monster’s Loose! as a big elephant in the room. I also think it would be a major impact worth talking about if when Michelle turned back up all of her friends and family were shocked and told her shes been gone for months or a year, like that one episode of Doctor Who.
