They’re not “flag animals”, they’re heraldic animals! They don’t appear on flags normally (Wales’ dragon flag is the exception here, not the rule) but they do appear on coats of arms.
Only three countries in the world have dragons on their flags; Wales, Bhutan and Malta. The Thunder Dragon of Bhutan is representative of royalty, culture and the land itself. Malta has the Cross of St. George, which depicts the saint and his battle with the dragon.

Just curious, but are the Not Deer in the SD universe? They’re a pretty new-ish cryptid, circa 2012, so maybe not. Or maybe it’s just a Totem Deer being photographed when it’s being weird. Or maybe it’s just a bunch of weird, sick deer.

The county flag of Weston-Super-Mare has a blue lion and a pink (supposedly white but not painted that way) greyhound on the heraldry.

Which brings up an interesting question: where did the human ideal of the noble Scottish-type unicorn come from, as Ravi remembers them as unremarkable ‘weird goat deer things’ and most in-universe human depictions of your basic mythical seem to be pretty much spot-on (largely from first-hand experience)?

Huh. I’m finding it hard to tell Pantheon from Yale. I guess Yale are more goatlike.
Yales are goats and Pantheons are hinds, and Yales can swivel their horns around.
