Man they really need medallions.

Sadly, the only thing that changes is that they would be homeless buskers who now need clothes.
They wouldn’t be able to hide in human society because they don’t have any of the skills. Also, even in the early 2000s there was a surprising amount of digital and paperwork trail that you needed to have to function in society. Avalon isn’t just a sanctuary, they handle things like that for their citizens.
We can see what a lovely job they’ve done of taking care of their at risk residents.

Yes, manticores as a race would benefit from having access to medallions. These two?
They need an angry mob to shame/threaten the ruling class into making a space for them. Alternatively, someone who is rich enough end of good enough moral fiber could go against the status quo and become a benefactor.
Honestly, angry mobs are easier to source.

If Liverpool is the only Avalon that accepts manticores, and Stat and Wal are the only ones in residence, where are all the others? Could it be that they are the last ones? :(

On a somewhat unrelated note, what do female manticores look like? Like Stat and Wal, but minus the manes?

Maybe a mass whatever Ike’s dad did. I think many manticores would take whatever chance whith whatever magic they had to live a better life.

i’d imagine that any that could get transmutation magic done would. i don’t think they had much magic of their own, though. so it would be more like how Ms. Gillis left her island. which would make such a lot less common.

though with such magic around, it would be hard to prove any given species of mythic to be extinct.

Some would have turned to sorcery to become permanently human, but there are probably a couple still hiding out in forests and avalons in India, where the species originated; maybe there’s a temple there somewhere that acts as an avalon?
But they’re definitely in decline and likely critically endangered.

“We will never know what happened in the Schwarzwald” … but it probaly involved noodles
