There’s something really unique about working on one story for the better part of 20 years. It comes with good things and bad things. I’m not the same person I was when I started the comic and sometimes it really shows in some of the earlier comics. But having the ability to tell a story with these characters for as long as I have is worth it!

Follow-up question: What will you do when you finish Skin Deep?
I do wonder, since there are some mythics that are considered ‘true’ shapeshifters, in that they fully take on the physical characteristics of what they shapeshift into.
How often do some of these mythics take on shapes related to modern day sci-fi/fantasy creatures or characters? Do any just…like a shape so much they make it ‘their own’?
Do any forget what they originally where?
Probably the most extreme example of a ‘true’ shapeshifter we’ve seen so far is Ravi. He told Colin (Illuminations ch.3, pg.41) “I am whatever form I am, child. A yaksha simply *is*!” Of course, there’s no chance of him forgetting who he is. Whatever form he takes, he’s full of himself.
If you would, what is one thing about Skin Deep that you would retcon?
I just keep hoping you will do a some more. I discovered your comic just weeks before the hiatus started, and I’ve read it though about 20 times. I’m really exited to see where it can go, or at the very least the creation of new medallions!
Contradictions? I’m a fan of Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe books. There are dozens, and they span the time between Prohibition and Watergate in the books. Note that the characters don’t age a day, and there are contradictions in canon all over the place. Is Archie’s mom alive or dead? Does Wolfe sell orchids or not?
I don’t care, and I doubt anyone else ever did. Don’t sweat this stuff too much.
And if you really want to see flexible canon, try Dr. Who.
One long running series for that comes to mind for me is Detective Conan/Case Closed, as a 30 year old weekly mystery series running on a weird comic time that manages to have incorporated all the changes in technology since then, despite not even a year passing in universe somehow.
