What happens when creature of two different species marry and have kids?
Like, take Greg and Michelle for example. If they have offspring, which of the two species would get passed? Or would it be a combination like with Isaac?
This has been covered before in early Reader Questions. Basically, the two would have children that could either be a satyr or a nixie. They do NOT hybridize unless something has gone very sideways (Ike was the product of a kelpie in natural shapeshifted disguise and a manticore transformed by a sorcerer, and as we see with Anthony, sorcery isn’t as stable as medallions). Otherwise the species roulette doesn’t favor either parent unelss there are other factors like gender bias (so in this case, we know that nixies are exclusively female, so presumably any sons this combination would have woul be satyrs by default).
Michell’s not a Nixie, you’re thinking of Merial.
But otherwise, yes.
As an addendum, Tony shows that sorcery can also mess with gender-specific species, since normally there’s no male harpies.

That’s not quite true. Happiest are dominantly female, but males DO exist, they just stay out of sight. Think that was established in another RQ
If a hypothetical satyr married a hypothetical nixie, their daughters would all be nixies. As I understand it, their sons could be either satyrs or nokks.
In the case of satyr Greg and sphinx Michelle, their daughters should all be (Grecian?) sphinxes; their sons would be either satyrs or (Egyptian?) sphinxes.
If Abby has any siblings, her brothers are all satyrs like her father and her sisters are all harpies like her mother.
Most mytholo species are not sex-linked. So, for example a gryphon and a centaur would have a random selection of gryphons and centaurs for children. (No hippogryphs.)
That’s the magic of medallions.
The Grecian/Egyptian sphinxes aren’t sex-bound, either. It just happens that all the Grecian sphinxes we’ve seen are female and the Egyptian sphinxes are male. That does raise some questions about Michelle’s dad being an Egyptian sphinx while she’s a Grecian sphinx but we might chalk that up to both bloodlines being present in the lineage.
According to Jim, no matter how thin the bloodline gets, it’s still present, which makes me wonder if ‘hybrids’ are actually more common than people realize but in the sense that they possess suppressed genetic potential for other species.
Also I’m not actually sure if Merial’s sons would be nokks? It makes sense, but nixies and nokks are also considered two separate species with two different medallions. Same with satyrs and fauns. The distinction might only matter for the medallion magic rather than procreation but I don’t think we’ve gotten confirmation either way.
Are there any marsupial mythical folks? Where would a joey go if they used a medallion?
I live in Weston-Super-Mare and we have a lot of seagulls and foxes here. Can I have a Seaside Town Gryphon please?
Random thought: Platypus is a griffin.

There are stones carved by the ancient Mongol people’s featuring flying deer! So THEORETICALLY there are in fact flying reindeer!

Alternatively: Girin/Qilin/Kylin/Kirin.
That’s the word for the auspicious dragon deer-sometimes-horse creature in Korean, Chinese, and Japanese.
Hi! Not quite something you can answer with a drawing, but do you have any examples of what Manticorsh approximately sounds like? Manticores are my favourite and the pub seemed dazzled by Statler’s speech, so I’d love an audio sample of what you’re imagining if you can find something close enough online :) Thanks!!
I am dying to know who got the second amulet.
I’m still speculating that it went to Eleanor.
In the flashbacks of Illuminations, we saw Wosret coin-stamping medallions with obverse and reverse dies, and it’s been implied that Michelle used the same technique. But, we haven’t seen the reverse side of any medallions yet. Among other possibilities, they could match the obverse or be maker marks, mint locations, or other aspects of the species portrayed, or hinted at, on the obverse. (I doubt it’s a rear view of the species whose front view is on the obverse.)
You can purchase your VERY OWN Skin Deep (TM) Medallion (TM) from the offocial Plesiostore and see for yourself!
But in universe yeah it makes sense that there’s be a hallmark and not a bespoke backing for every medallion. Obverse having an indication of its intended user makes sense, but making the dies for both sides is a luxury for items that were at the time meant to fulfill a function rather than a decorative flourish.
