A question for the main cast(plus Bloodcarver): Did you have a favorite toy or blanket growing up, and do you still have it?
How to phones work for those with paws or talons or something else? Does someone have to modify the phone to sense them?
Keep in mind, this story takes place in 2005. Touch screens and haptic interfaces weren’t really a thing yet.
From a technical POV, all of the mass-deployed basic technologies should be more or less workable with any extremities that are the proper size and have warm blood flowing through them (“warm” for passive infrared, and “dissolved salts” and thus electric conductivity for the capacitive types of sensors).
… now I’m imagining a (reptile-style poikilotherm) dragon flame-huffing his talons every couple seconds to be able to keep texting on the cell phone he bought unawares of it using an infrared-based touchscreen … :-)
