I do wonder why the Bugbear Talisman was created in the first place. Something tells me it was by somebody who personally knew a Bugbear and wanted to prank them back.

Also OMG Lily’s tail waggies I love it ~

Or we can remember that bugbears prey on people’s fears, they aren’t just cute pranksters. Seems like there’d be a significant market to make magical artifacts to make yourself invisible to the monsters hunting in the dark.

That makes me wonder. Humans could do magic once, right? Just… mostly forgot? Sphinxes were just innately super-powerful but I can most definitely see merit in that train of thought.

Either hiding from the monsters hunting in the dark… or hunt them back.

Holy heck. I think that talisman might actually be carved from a bugbear claw. The width and curved shape are very similar to Kevin’s own claws, just held front wards. Maybe their claws are more like ivory and less like keratin? Makes sense given the size.

That’s a good view of the structure of a bugbear’s… fingernails. I wonder how much work it is to keep those trimmed? If bugbears were a bit more gregarious, would there be big debates over proper nail length and best methods for industrial manicure?

Bugbear guy: *pats custom Dremel rig* This boy does everything! Know a good home tinkerer, that’s the way!

Bugbear gal: Sure, Bernard doesn’t look like much, but I’ve never liked big alpha types. Our kids came out fine, and he has such a deft hand with a spokeshave! *spreads hand, wiggles fingers*

I have a feeling “being used responsibly” was never intended by the creator of the talisman. “I solemnly swear I am up to no good.”

M’thinkin’ Lilly has a personal interest in Alec that goes beyond prank wars. Is this something like the traditional way to flirt with bubears? For that matter is ‘flirting’ even a thing with bugbears?

It’s just, when I imagine a couple of bugbears getting together, or for that matter anybody getting together with one, I can’t help imagining that … if they really love each other, then some very loud noises, shouted threats, and occasional, um, “voluntary mutual participation in enthusiastic violence” might be a regular occurrence.

Followed by an inevitable breakup and years of annual Christmas cards containing fond reminiscences and recriminations on the relationship, accompanied by occasional loving death threats.

Is that just me? Or is that the way anyone else imagines bugbear romance? Is Lilly on the right, uh, “wrong track” if that’s her goal?

How many does the talisman hide? ‘Cose unless Lily likes to leave herself open for Alec’s revenge (which could be possible), as Alec, I’d be very wary whenever I could actually sense her around. That means always that the talisman is somewhere else at that moment…
