Bugbears can do just about anything as long as it is scary, and unfortunately “turning into a human” isn’t always a scary thing. Hence: medallions.

Does that mean that a bugbear can turn into one of those “not-deer” creatures that are so horribly freaky? Is bugbear magic all illusions or are there physical manifestations as well?
A silly question from a silly lil guy:
What’s your favorite and least favorite parts of writing this comic?
I love this one…it’s funny!
I like the implication that “it will be funny” is the main part that convinced them.
Always do it for the bit.
Huh, I think this is the first time we’ve actually seen a bugbear in full form.
I think … here?

Nah, Myra’s still got thumbs there, this one doesn’t. Also her ears are weird during that fight scene (it’s more visible on the next page), they’re positioned and shaped like human ears whereas this one (and also Alec in mid-form) have normal bear ears (round and on top of the head).
I forgot about WHO WANTS A HUG? :)

Umh, nope, there’s a sketch (that doesn’t really *show* much IMHO) somewhere in the RQs …
Oh I like this even better!
This bugbear ability to do anything scary reminds me of Roger Rabbit’s ability to do anything funny. And, context can affect whether something is funny — or scary.
I really love that bugbear magic essentially operates on a “Rule of Cool” type of deal
Except instead of cool it’s scary
Omg what a cute little sphinx!
