Despite having bookshelves full of good books on the subject, I always find myself starting with wikipedia when I’m looking for new creatures. It’s just an easy way to start! You can’t only use wikipedia, though. Once I find a name of a critter, I will look up better sources of info on it before feeling confident enough to put it in the comic.

Wikipedia’s like a research paper — expected to be a dry read, but full of sources you can use to find out more about *whatever*.
The main downside to paper books for research is you cannot use “Control+F.”
While that’s true, research texts may contain a strange, arcane technology called… The Index.
It gives you a hand while you finger the pages
If the main cast were dinosaurs, what species would they be?
Omg yes
What counts as better sources of info?? Don’t live near a university, anymore…
Also, what are underwater Avalons like?
Depending on where you live, lots of places have good public libraries that can get all sorts of wacky things via interlibrary loan for free.
Yessss, I also have a huge collection of mythology/urban legend reference books.
For some reason my brain read “My Huge Bookcase” as “My Huge Booty”.
how do you decide if a creature readers ask about fits into skindeep? are there criteria, or just a vibe?
